In this time of Coronavirus pandemic, a lot of people are scared to go out and go to places to relax, to unwind, to seek for some adventure. They will just sit on their couch at home and watch some Netflix and hope and pray that this will all end soon.

But do you really think it is gonna end soon? Have you ever wondered and asked yourself when you watch the news "Until when are we going to live like this?" Like in the zombie movies that you are afraid to go out and mingle with people in the mall, in the groceries that you are unsure if you are safe. Sometimes you think that it is better to deal with real zombies because you'll know who is infected or not.

I’m sure you have asked these questions and there could probably be more.

Let’s go back to the questions when you watched the news. More deaths, more suicides, more cases of depression. Most people don’t live long these days. When you check on your Facebook, how many people in your friends list died because of COVID-19? How many of them committed suicide because of stress and anxiety? It is saddening, isn’t it? I definitely feel you.

Being feared and worried about your own health and the health of your family or loved ones, your financial situation or job or even loss of support services you rely on is really understandable. Sometimes it results in changes in sleep or eating patterns or difficulty sleeping or concentrating.

But hey, until when are you going to be afraid? Will you let those undesirable things affect your mental stability? I know this is a cliche but it is for some good reason, ‘Life is short’.

Yes, life is short. Excuse me but here comes another cliche, ‘live your life to the fullest’. But I’m not saying you should go out there and go beach-ing, picnic-ing, drinking without being extra careful.

Let’s do this slowly. And when I say slowly, I mean let’s start with our mental state. Try to go out and start exploring some places.

Start with staycation. But is it safe?

They are encouraging their employees to maintain social distancing and wash their hands frequently. All employees have paid sick leave and are required to stay home if feeling unwell. Additionally, in every city where they operate, they are enacting stringent hygiene measures and requiring the use of protective equipment (PPE) in an effort to help keep both their team and their guests safe.

Stay Safe Standards

  • Contact-free support - They offer 24/7 guest support via app, phone or email

  • Mask Up - They ask that guests wear masks in indoor common areas.

  • Hand Sanitizer - They provide guests with hand sanitizer when available.

Sonder reiterates that all housekeepers must wash their hands following CDC handwashing guidelines upon entering a unit. This includes before putting on gloves and after removing gloves. Disposable gloves are worn and discarded after each cleaning. They do not allow reusable gloves.

They make sure that housekeepers wear masks whenever they are inside Sonder buildings. No exceptions. They ask cleaners to use disposable paper towels where possible, and ensure that any cleaning cloths are properly laundered between uses and are limited to one area. Their  cleaners use EPA-registered, CDC and Canadian Public Health Agency approved, and cleaning products, including Clorox, Lysol, and isopropyl alcohol. All surfaces are cleaned, then disinfected. Disinfection takes place using EPA registered products. They ask housekeepers to remove and replace all linen, regardless of whether it appears to be used. Similarly, they direct them to replace consumables after each clean, including shampoo and conditioner.

How this Creative Idea of Sonder Started

In the summer of 2013, their founder Francis Davidson (then a university student in Montreal) managed a handful of apartments. Everytime he accepted guests, he greeted them with wine, parked their cards and began to envision a new set of ideas around hospitality. The following year, he and co-founder Lucas Pellan created a startup matching travelers with vacant student apartments across cities. And that startup became Sonder.

Sonder today is an internationally recognized hospitality brand. Headquartered in San Francisco, we offer studios, lofts, hotel rooms, and apartments in cities around the world.

  • 35+ cities and 7 countries

  • 5,000+ listings worldwide

  • 825,000+ guests

  • $189 per night, on average

  • $560+ million in investor funding

What began as a journey to provide a better stay has grown into a celebration of modern design and exceptional comfort. That is why Sonder today is working with world-class architects and designers to create truly remarkable spaces. The ones that can transcend hospitality and enrich lives. They are employing technology to keep those spaces affordable as they bring Sonder to more cities around the world.
